PART 1: MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST/ FRONT OFFICE Medical receptionists are the primary contact point between patients and medical personnel. A medical receptionist's job duties include answering phones, maintaining patient check-in and answering questions. Medical receptionists can be employed at any location that provides medical care to the public including hospitals, outpatient centers, and private medical offices. Jobs as medical receptionists were among the fastest growing among professions in the United States in 2009. A medical receptionist is the first person a client sees when he enters a medical facility. The receptionist welcomes patients to the facility and answers preliminary non-medical questions for patients. When a problem persists regarding a booked schedule or when a patient shows up late for an appointment, the medical scheduler has to find solutions to clear up the problem. If a patient does not show up for an appointment, the medical scheduler has to notify the medical director about adjusting the schedule. Secretarial training can be a stepping-stone toward an exciting career working for doctors, hospitals, and medical institutes. Medical secretaries or administrative assistants usually work in a doctor's office, group practice, clinic, hospital or a government agency. They have a similar job description as secretaries in other businesses, except they need specialized knowledge of the medical environment, diseases, treatment, terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
